Giovedì 9 aprile sono state annunciate le pellicole presenti alla settantanovesima edizione del Festival di Cannes: quelle in concorso, fuori concorso e delle varie sezioni. Sarà un festival diverso rispetto a quello dello scorso anno, con meno produzioni hollywoodiane e più rivolto verso i film indipendenti. Tra i registi di spicco troviamo Pawlikowski col suo Fatherland (qui la prima immagine), Farhadi con Parallel Tales, Sorogoyen con The Beloved e Almodovar con Bitter Christmas. L’estremo oriente è rappresentato da registi come Hong-jin Na con il suo Hope, Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car) con All of a Sudden e Hirokazu Kore-eda con Sheep in The Box.
Molti sono i film in lingua francese (anche diretti da registi stranieri) e, per la prima volta dal 2017, non ci sono film italiani. Da segnalare i registi statunitensi della sezione Un Certain Regard: Jane Schoenbrun con Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma e Jordan Firstman con Club Kid. Nella sezione Proiezioni Speciali ci saranno i documentari di Steven Soderbergh e Ron Howard, rispettivamente su John Lennon e su Richard Avedon. Fuori concorso ci sarà il ritorno alla regia di Nicholas Refn con Her Private Hell e una delle proiezioni di mezzanotte sarà Full Phil di Quentin Dupieux.
il Festival di Cannes 2026 si terrà dal 12 al 23 maggio 2026. Il film d’apertura sarà La Venus Electrique di Pierre Salvadori e la giuria sarà presieduta da Park Chan-wook (Old-Boy, No Other Choice). Peter Jackson e Barbra Streisand riceveranno la Palma d’Oro onoraria.
